The identification of large panels of glass need not be complicated, but it is important that markings are placed where the possibility of walking into the glass is possible.

To comply with the Building Regulations part M and the Disability Discrimination Act all entrance and internal glazing must be identified with logos and / or manifestations installed at two heights. The following is taken from the building regs:

2.24 Glass entrance doors and glazed screens will satisfy Requirement M1 or M2 if:
a. they are clearly defined with manifestation on the glass at two levels, 850 to 1000mm and 1400 to
1600mm above the floor, contrasting visually with the background seen through the glass (both from
inside and outside) in all lighting conditions;
b. manifestation takes the form of a logo or sign at least 150mm high (repeated if on a glazed screen),
or a decorative feature such as broken lines or continuous bands, at least 50mm high;
c. glazed entrance doors, where adjacent to, or forming part of, a glazed screen, are clearly
differentiated from it by the provision of a high contrast strip at the top, and on both sides;
d. glass entrance doors, where capable of being held open, are protected by guarding to prevent the
leading edge constituting a hazard.

All that is required is a visible marking, so a row of dots is not only sufficient, but with a little thought can look decorative as well.

The use of a company logo incorporated within the marking can bring added attention. Alternatively, the marking can be wording with a message, such as :

The materials used should also be taken into consideration. The photograph above shows graphics in white only for simplicity, but frosted and dusted crystal materials and coloured vinyls are all possible. Consider also combining two colours together.

We can help advise, design and supply or install various standard or bespoke logos and manifestations for you.
